Depilatories basically dissolve the hair at the surface of the skin, therefore their lasting power is similar (possibly a bit longer) than shaving. The harsh chemicals however can irritate the skin or in the more sensitive cause eye irritation and chemical burns especially if left on to long. The advantages however are that you can pick them up anywhere, they can be done by you at home quickly, they are inexpensive and in most cases pain free.
