SHAVING

Of all the forms of hair removal that either men or women use this is the most common. It has the advantages of being cheap, quick and easily done at home but its major disadvantage is that it does not last long (24hours for most), with men’s beard areas often prone to a ‘shadow’ almost immediately.

Skin irritation can be a factor for some and ingrown hairs can be a problem for others especially African American men (facial hair) and women who shave the bikini line. For best results change your blades frequently and exfoliate.

To dispel a common myth, shaving does not make your hair grow faster or thicker but it may appear to do so as the blunt end of cut hair is more noticeable than the fine point of new hair and new hair is often darker as it has not be lightened by sun exposure.

Formen who have never tried it you should treat yourself to a professional wet shave at least once with a cut throat, I’ve heard it’s really great!

Tips:

  • Shave with the grain (the direction your hair grows) to avoid rashes, especially important if you have sensitive skin or are prone to rashes.
  • Change blades frequently.
  • For head shaving we have come across a great product called the Head Blade, check it out.
  • After shave will help avoid rashes too.
Types of razor

Disposable- designed to be cheap so you can throw it away when the blade becomes dull

Safety- designed to reduce nicks and cuts you will know if you need this type.

Shaving system- the type where you retain the handle and replace the blades as the become dull.

Head Shaving

This has become way more popular in recent years especially amongst men that are beginning to loose their hair. The best way to achieve this look is to get someone else to do it for you, if this is not possible you could check out the funky design of the Head Blade. Remember that post treatment with Aloe Vera is a good idea and a must is sun screen!

People have tried numerous of the other hair removal methods on the head but have achieved mixed results:

  • Waxing- can be painful and does not last that long
  • Depilatories- can leave your scalp very red (or even burn), especially if left longer than manufacturers recommendations
  • Electrolyses- is permanent but can be painful, time consuming and expensive
  • Laser- is expensive
