THREADING (Khite)

This is not a common form of hair removal in Western culture. It originates in the Middle East called khite in Arabic or fatlah in Egyptian and is used mainly to remove facial hair and shape eyebrows.

Twists of cotton thread are used to remove rows of hair by trapping them between the threads and then pulling them out. It is cheap, fast and neat and considered less painful than plucking with results lasting 2 to 4 weeks.

Disadvantages include it being hard to find a professional practitioner to do this outside large cities with Muslim and Indian sectors, the Middle East and India . It can be painful, cause itching post treatment and leave the skin red and puffy. Less common are changes to the skins pigment and bacterial infections common to all methods where the hairs are plucked.
