TWEEZING & PLUCKING

Tweezers in all there forms are great for eyebrow and stray hair removal (not inside the nose where infection can easily occur not to mention the pain or from moles). As you can imagine large areas of hair are something that should not be attempted with tweezers removing one hair at a time.

The main disadvantage of tweezing is that it can be painful and that ingrown hairs and pitting or scarring can be an issue.

Choose a tweezer that suits your grip and how use them as they come in square, slanted and pointed varieties. Never drop them and always clean in alcohol after use. If visiting a salon and tweezers are used this is especially important that you notice this being done! A good tip to increase the spring on a tweezer is to gently pull the two halves apart, this cannot be decreased though once you have done it.

For best results :

  • Don’t use a moisturizer or other creams before tweezing as this will cause you to slip.
  • Use a warm cloth on the area before you tweeze to open the pores and reduce pain.
  • Brush hairs into the direction they naturally grow.
  • Isolate each hair before you tweeze it.
  • Always tweeze in the direction of hair growth to prevent ingrown hairs.
  • Only pull out one hair at a time.
  • Always pull gently and smoothly without yanking.

Brow Shaping

Because just one or two hairs can make all the difference in getting your brow shape right for your face most beauty salons offer a special brow shaping service there are even salons that do only that! If you think that is excessive then ‘brow mousse’ is probably not for you but it really is great for taming your eyebrows. A non-sticky clear gel applied from a wand rather like many types of lip gloss it keeps that groomed look.

When shaping your brows yourself the general rule is that if you took a pencil and lined it up against the side of your nose the hairs should not be any closer together than where it crosses the brow line. The end of the brow is found by positioning the pencil to create a diagonal line from the side of your nostril through the outer corner of your eye. Where the pencil crosses the brow line this time is where they should end by gently tapering away.
