CHOOSING THE RIGHT FOUNDATION

When choosing foundation, keep several things in mind before ever preceding to the make-up counter: your skin type, skin tone, skin problems, and coverage requirements. Once all of these areas are addressed, it is time for the fun to begin.

First, narrow down your foundation choices by your skin type and coverage requirments.

  • If you have normal skin the choices are almost endless so go wild!!!
  • If you have oily skin, choose foundations that will help reduce shine. Avoid creams and pan sticks as they can be to heavy for your skin type. Instead look for Oil-Free Matte, Liquids, or tinted moisturizers depending on the coverage you are seeking.
  • If you have dry skin, choose foundation with a moisturizer to keep your face looking fresh all day.
  • If you have sensitive skin steer clear of foundations with any added alcohol, dyes, fragrances, etc. The safest option is to always select foundations made specifically for your skin type.
  • If you have skin problems like acne, you will want to choose a foundation that contains salicylic acid or other medications that will treat your skin as well as provide coverage. Oily skin foundations will usually comply with your skin tone.
  • If you have mature skin choose foundations with added moisturizer. Most make-up lines now cater to mature skin.
  • If your skin is very blotchy, darkly freckled or scarred, you will want to choose a foundation that is thicker and provides maximum coverage.

Next determine your skin tone and choose colors accordingly always testing the foundation. Testing allows you to see how your body will react to the pigments in the foundation.

Allow the foundation to set for at least a minute; the chemistry and heat of your body may change the color of the foundation.Test the foundation on the inside of your forearm or on the bottom of your jaw close to your ear to make sure it matches. Foundation should match your face and neck, so you may need to compromise and use a shade in between.

No matter what your skin type or tone always opt for a foundation that contains SPF.
