You possess dry skin if:
- Skin severly lacks moisture and feels dry;
- has a small, fine pore size
- shows premature fine lines
- is flaky, parched
- becomes severely parched after cleansing
- is scaly and peeling
- burns easily; and
- is itchy.
Dry skin is screaming for hydration! To replenish moisture and bring the skin back into the normal range, adopt a skin care regimen that focuses on softening and hydrating the skin. Night creams should also be an essential part of your routine, as they nourish the body while it rests.
Dry skin care products should naturally stimulate oil production. Look for products that contain Vitamin A, D, and E when choosing your skin care line. Also try to consume foods daily that are rich in these vitamins as well as the mineral Zinc. You may notice that your skin type can change with diet and moods so be sure to maintain a healthy diet regimen. For more tips on super skin foods see the skin diet.
Shop for mild cleanser's that remove the day’s dirt without removing skin’s natural moisture and oil. After cleansing, your skin should not feel dry. If this occurs discard your product and try, try again!
Exfoliaters that contain oatmeal grit will help to slough off dead skin cells leaving skin smooth and unharmed. Products containing Coconut are highly hydrating and an ingredient to look for when treating dry skin on the entire body, but if your skin is prone to breakouts beware as coconut is not always the best option for sensitive skin!
The best defense against dry, scaly skin is moisturizer. Your moisturiser should always be specified for dry skin and be free of any fragrances. f you're looking for natural moisturizers, herbal additives like elder flower, linden flowers and marigolds are great.
Above all , NEVER use alcohol or products containing any trace of alcohol on your face! As Alcohol is extremely drying to the face.
Your environment could be contributing to your dry skin, especially during the winter months. Avoid heaters and invest in a humidifier, as dry, hot air causes skin to lose moisture. Also, avoid extreme temperatures when bathing. Changing your skin care twice a year is always recommended. For more advice and tips click here.
